Important Factors to Consider Before Choosing a Medicare Plan

Before enrolling in any Medicare plan, it’s important to carefully evaluate your personal needs — because no single plan is the perfect fit for everyone. Consider the following:

⦁ Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not include an out-of-pocket maximum. It also doesn’t cover vision services, routine dental care, or medical expenses incurred outside of the United States.

⦁ Preferred Providers: Make a list of your preferred doctors, hospitals, and healthcare facilities.

⦁ Special Healthcare Needs: Think about any ongoing needs, such as regular outpatient treatments or a history of frequent hospitalizations.

⦁ Medicaid Coverage: Are you currently covered by Medicaid?

⦁ Employer Insurance: Do you already have health insurance through your employer?

⦁ Prescription Costs: Will your medications be covered at the most affordable rates under the plan?

⦁ Travel and Lifestyle: Do you travel often, and does your lifestyle require flexible healthcare options?

⦁ Plan Quality: How do different Medicare plans compare in terms of quality ratings?

⦁ Costs: What is the right balance for you between monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs like copayments and deductibles?

Nicholas Ruggiero can help you verify which Medicare plans are accepted by your doctors and hospitals — helping you avoid interruptions in care and ensuring you can continue seeing your preferred providers while getting the coverage you need.

Our licensed insurance agents are specially trained to help you understand how these factors affect your Medicare choices.

Already Have Health Coverage? Should You Enroll in Medicare Part B?

If you or your spouse (or a family member, if you have a disability) are still working and have health insurance through an employer or union, it’s important to talk with your employer’s or union’s benefits administrator. They can explain how your current coverage will work with Medicare. This also applies if you are employed by a federal or state government agency or are on active military duty.

In some cases, it may be beneficial for you to delay enrolling in Medicare Part B to avoid unnecessary costs.

Important Reminder:

Coverage based on current employment does not include:

⦁ COBRA continuation coverage

⦁ Retiree health benefits

⦁ VA (Veterans Affairs) health coverage

⦁ Individual health insurance purchased through the Health Insurance Marketplace
